Drawing Practices Within Botanical Illustration
Proffesional Practice

Moral and Ethical Conciderations

Conclusion
I think my work covers a good basis for understanding the different aspects that form drawing practices within botanical illustration. I used a wide range of resources to gain an inclusive and ethical understanding of the history which are also linked so that you can delve further into the contributions made by people of colour that colonialism tried to hide and erase. Due to a constrained word count, there is a lot that I cannot convey in this blog, which is why my references are below, so they can form a basis for your own research.

I believe my illustrations help highlight key aspects of each page in a simple and visually appealing way. I am particularly pleased with the orchid painted for the professional practice page, it holds the same proportions as an orchid and highlights key aspects which differentiate it from other species, and it looks remarkably like the potted orchid in my bedroom that I used as my specimen.
This blog could work as a basic professional guide to introduce beginners into the world of botanical illustration, it’s short and visually stimulating enough to be captivating throughout.

I’ve learnt a lot during this project, from the materials and skills required to work in botanical illustration to how colonization and white supremacy have caused a deficit in representation of the contributions by People of colour. My research has helped further understand that moral and ethical considerations are important because having fully representational information improves you own practice, potentially by improving your carbon footprint or promoting marginalised groups voices in efforts of inclusivity.
